I practiced doing some cartwheels (I even managed some flimsy looking one-handed ones) last night.

my first attempts

some one handed attempts

I also tried to practice some on-the-wall butterfly exercise.

Actual videos of me trying to do jumps can be found at http://ofb.net/~wtanaka/skate/

The instructions given to me (typewritten on a prescription slip):

MIX EQUAL PARTS OF HYDROGEN
PEROXIDE 3% AND WARM WATER.
RINSE MOUTH AFTER EATING AND
AT BEDTIME.

So I tried this for the first time last night. Peroxide has got to be one of the worst things I've tasted. I almost threw up, and I hadn't even swallowed any of it. Then, when I spit it out, it came out as this rabid-looking foam. Yum.

I've since gotten used to the taste, and stopped bothering diluting with water. But I've also since discovered that one of the uses of Hydrogen Peroxide is to induce vomiting. I feel validated in my reaction now.

The anesthetic is starting to wear off. This is going tobe unpleasant.

Well, I went to get this bump removed from my lip this morning. It ended up costing $400, which is a little bit more than one month of CORBA coverage was costing. I think that health insurance is only really cost effective if you get really really hurt or sick and need to stay in the hospital.

I now have some stitches in my mouth, and my lip is numb. I also am supposed to rinse it with peroxide every so often.

Feeling/hearing the doctor cut through my lip with a scissors made me feel nauseous.

The plan seems to be:

1) Apply to grad schools (yes, still haven't done this yet)
2) Finish project at Berkeley (first need to 'start project')
3) Move to China (Dec 2003-Aug 2004)
4) If rejected from grad schools, stay in China (-Aug 2005). I'm actually kind of half-hoping for this.
5) In the meantime take one graduate class (probably at Berkeley) to increase chances of grad school admission.

I realized that one of my criteria for places that I live is the number of stars visible to the naked eye on a typical night.

0-11: 0 points
12-50: 1 point
50-100: 2 points
100+: 3 points

"jtr" is the username of one of my classmates from Caltech. We both worked at iSpheres for a while.

(21:31:34) Wes Nelson (home): then there are people on the other end of the spectrum, like JTR.
(21:31:59) Wes Nelson (home): the "I would wear a bathrobe on an airplane" vibe
(21:32:30) Wesley Tanaka: I think that's the "fashion sense & drive to use it" axis.
(21:32:51) Wes Nelson (home): clearly he knew what he was doing was ridiculous, but he just didn't care.
(21:33:00) Wesley Tanaka: he did this?
(21:33:03) Wes Nelson (home): haha
(21:33:15) Wes Nelson (home): dude, the FBI agents showed up and questioned him. you don't remember?
(21:33:22) Wesley Tanaka: whoa
(21:33:31) Wesley Tanaka: ohhhhh, yes, I remember now
(21:33:41) Wesley Tanaka: I just fell out of my chair laughing
